Shoesday Tuesday

Shoesday2

In yet another of many installments of “get off my screen and into my closet” I bring you shoes! Because after Monday we all can use a little pick me up. And although shoes are good I also have sangria and pool time with my girlfriends in the works this week- another good mid week pick me up. This summer has just flown by, and I plan to enjoy every last minute of it. Happy Shoesday.

Summer Tomatilla Salsa

I stumbled upon this Tomatilla Salsa recipe on Honestly Yum and made it last night to go along with chicken tacos. Although I altered the recipe slightly, using only ingredients I had on hand which meant green onions instead of spring onions and adding a little garlic and lime juice, I was very happy with how it turned out and it was super easy! Here is what I did…

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of tomatillos, husked
  • 5-6 medium green onions
  • 1/2 a bunch of cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno
  • 1 garlic clove
  • juice of half a lime

Salsa 1

Grill the onions, tomatillas, jalapeno and garlic for about 5 minutes. This should char the outside of the veggies just a bit.

Salsa 2

Once you pull the above ingredients off the heat cut them into smaller chunks and place them into a blender or food processor. Depending on how hot you like your salsa, you may want to remove the seeds from the jalapeno. I sliced my jalapeno down the center and removed about half the seeds but included the rest in my food processor because I wanted a little spice.

Once the first ingredients are blended add a bit of salt and the cilantro to the food processor or blender and pulse again until it is all incorporated and blended together.

Salsa 3

I served mine on chicken tacos but it would be great with chips for an appetizer as well!

DIY: Dressing Up A Clutch

DIY Clutch

I recently picked up the camel version of this clutch while I was on vacation in California. As I was standing in the line to check out I almost decided to put it back, because although I thought it was cute it wasn’t anything to write home about. But before I put it back this DIY idea struck me and so I decided to keep it- and now I have this cute and cheeky summer clutch. Another great idea I got from my girlfriend was buying these to have them monogrammed- just in case pom poms aren’t your thing. I’ve personally never met a pom pom I didn’t like but if your more the monogram type go for it! Happy Friday!

Road Trip Photo Diary

PD1

My trip started in Minneapolis, Shane and I were packing up and moving back home to Idaho. My parents came to visit and help Shane and I move all of our things. Luckily we squeezed in a lot of fun stuff aside from all the moving responsibilities. We decided to take a more scenic route home from Minneapolis to Boise, and stopped to see Mount Rushmore. I had never been to Mount Rushmore, and I was really happy to have been able to do that with my parents. We also drove through Yellowstone on the way home, and even though I have been there before it was still just as stunning the second time through. After being home for just shy of a week, my sister and I packed up her car and drove to California. She recently started a new job in San Jose and we went down a week early to spend a few days in California before her new job started. We visited San Francisco, Carmel, Santa Cruz, Los Gatos, and spent quite a bit of time in Campbell, which is her new home. I really couldn’t have asked for a better start to my summer than wine tasting with my sister, hanging out with my best girlfriends, sandy beaches and being able to spend time with my family again.

For: Summer Road Trips

Road Trip

It’s been an entire month since I’ve shown  my face on this place- I apologize. I have been moving, unpacking, road tripping, and unpacking some more, but I am officially settled into my new apartment and therefore I am back to blogging. I recently took a road trip that helped inspire this post. These are some of my top picks for summer trips! I hope everyone has been enjoying the start to their summer! I will share photos from my trip later this week! xoxo

Part 2 of my “what to wear where” series is weddings. As do a lot of other people in their mid 20’s, I have a lot of weddings to attend this summer. So here are 2 very different options, (if the internet were our closet) but really I’d like you to consider purchasing all of “black tie wedding” because holy shit that looks good.  After you leave I’m pretty sure family members of the bride and groom will be referring to you as “sophisticated” which will help people overlook that fact that you may have drank too much at the reception. Happy Friday!

Audrey

I stumbled upon this link today on Cupcakes and Cashmere and thought it was worth sharing on here as well- I doubt it’s just me with the Audrey obsession. She is just so darn cute! Happy Thursday!

For: Ladies Who Lunch

Lunch

This is the first of a few posts that are based around the activities and events that summer usually provides. Today a little outfit inspiration for all the lady lunch dates you have planned with your girlfriends!  Happy Wednesday! More to come later this week!

Ripped Denim= Everything

Did you think Rachel Zoe was guest posting today? Tricked ya, only me here! But really, this is the first of probably many posts that will revolve around ripped denim because currently it is all that I can think about. I love the simple styling of the outfit on the right, and this lighter denim Zara version I found online (if only the internet were really my closet) would be so perfect for summer.

Chaos To Couture

My Monday night came to an end much like many other fashion lovers out there- with a string of phone calls and texts to my sister to discuss each celeb’s sartorially choice for the Met Gala as their photos surfaced online. I had met a girlfriend for dinner and drinks after work and then ran multiple errands which meant that I arrived home much later than usual and had missed the beginning of the photos, but my sister was on the phone reassuring me that I would love Nicole, Cameron, SJP- the usual roundup for me, and of course she was right. But then again it was the Met so you really can’t hate any of it. The extremity of it all is really the best part. Below are a few snippets from said phone calls & texts:

“If the theme this year was “look like an impossibly gorgeous angel unicorn goddess” instead of “punk” than obviously Blake lively won again.”

“Ivanka Trump is a mermaid”

“Rooney Mara looks exactly like Rooney Mara”

“Kim K has no hands”

“This bi*ch makes me want to throw up!! #bestdressed #2013metgala @nicolerichie”

Ok ok that last one was actually Rihanna, but I didn’t want to assume that you actually cared at all about what my sister and I discussed last night on the phone- but if you do care here are some of our faves from the evening… Who was on your “Best Dressed” list? Please share!
